The Ford Ikon is a sedan version of the Ford Fiesta Mark V on the Ford B3 platform. It is manufactured and sold in India. It used to be manufactured and sold in South Africa, Mexico and China where production ended in December 2006, September 2007 and 2007 respectively. The Ford Ikon is the first car by a global manufacturer designed and developed specifically for India, tailor made for the values Indian customers attach to a car. The Ikon has a classy and well-proportioned look thaFord Icont makes it one of the best looking cars in the segment. It has a 1.6 litre Rocam petrol engine that takes you from 0 -100 km in 11.5 seconds. Its dazzling colors in a clear coat finish make it a definite showstopper.
Ford Ikon was launched in the event of phasing out of Escort. Since then Ikon has been a major player in the entry level sedan market with a share of over 20%. The most interesting aspect of the brand is in its positioning. Ikon dethroned the position of Esteem in the C segment through its breakaway positioning. The interiors are well crafted. There is ample legroom, especially at the back. It has a CFC free air-conditioning, power steering and central locking. Its safety features include the Ford Dynamic Safety Engineering, childproof rear locks and side impact beams in both front and rear. The Ikon will be launched in two versions, the 1.8 Diesel and the 1.6 petrol.
The Ikon blends Ford’s radical ‘New Edge’ style cues with some appealing accents in a most pleasing manner. The car is handsome which is both sporty and conservative. The interior is very tastefully done with logical inputs. The suspension dynamics are quite brilliant and the handling predictable and safe. The engine is particularly impressive which is quiet, smooth and punchy. Style, reliability when coupled with price should see the Ikon in good stead.
